How to Maintain Your Patio

April 16th 2021

After so many years, there is every chance that your once compelling patio area may have incurred some structural damage. There is never any reason for panic, as simple measures can often make a real difference in the fight to get the outside of your home looking stylish once again. Even if the problems are large and things look to be getting worse, taking things one step at a time can help create a concrete roadmap on your way to effective patio repairs for any kind of design.

You may have only recently installed a patio and these problems aren’t something you have too much experience with, so we are here to explain how you can restore everything correctly despite being novices in the world of patio restorations. So, without further ado, here are some of the common measures our patio specialists in Herefordshire often encourage people to use when working on general maintenance.

Power Washing Your Patio

Sometimes a good old wash down could be all that’s required to get your materials looking more appealing on the eye. It’s recommended that you use power washers to work over your patio area every so often in order to tackle any grime or dirt that may have built up over a certain period of time. Given the nature of power washers and their forceful operation, you can really get to work on even the most troubled areas where weeds may have grown. After you have washed over the entire surface, the original colouring should be more prominent and any scuffs will have been taken out of the equation.

Weeding Between and Around Your Patio

One of the most unpleasant sights across people’s gardens is the build-up of weeds! They are not only unsightly, but they can also be massively damaging to any plants and materials used for patios. This is a task that may be simple or long-winded, depending on the scale of any issues. Should you find only a handful of unwanted visitors, then manually pulling them out and working on de-rooting before regrowth is possible could be enough. If on the other hand you discover what appears to be a large-scale issue, you may need to up the ante and get hold of proven weed killing products that eradicate such concerns before it can escalate further out of control.

Sealing Gaps in your Patio

Wear and tear is inevitable with patios, and this is likely to lead to certain components coming apart. If you find any areas of your patio developing gaps, then you always need to get these sealed up as soon as possible. Failure to deal with such problems could mean further damage around affected parts of your layout and lead to further money being spent on what could end up being issues which require a more specialised pair of hands. If you have things like bricks installed, then you could simply replace anything damaged individually, however patios where this isn’t possible may require the use of sealant before a more permanent method of repair is implemented.
